The court also granted the time to coal handling company at the port area for furnishing its reply in the petition when the two-member bench comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah resumed the hearing on the petition.
The petition was filed by Venu G Advani, who submitted in the court that open coal storage is not allowed under the orders of the apex judiciary last year in the city and can be only kept in warehouses and in case of transportation, proper blankets and moisture should be provided to the coal to check the dust, which can cause pollution.
The petitioner stated that the court order has not been complied with as the coal was not being stored in warehouse and dumped openly in the court. He argued that transportation of the coal from PQA was also not being done properly, which is causing pollution in the city and adjoining areas.
The petitioner contended that he approached the authorities concerned viz-a-viz compliance of the court orders regarding coal storage and transportation but they did not pay any attention.
He pleaded the court that contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against departments concerned for their failure in implementing the court orders.
